On March 27, the Ontario government released an austerity budget that includes billions of dollars in public service cuts. It is a budget that will kill jobs, gut public services and hurt communities. We need to tell our MPPs that they must amend the budget. This is the first weekly Mobilizing Monday. Every week, we will send you three simple actions you can take to help protect public services and get Ontario the budget it deserves. If you can, please do all three, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Try one, or all of them! For more information about the budget, click on the mobilizing monday picture above.
One-minute action
Visit budget.messageyourmpp.ca and enter your address to automatically send your MPP an email. Did you already send an e-mail? If you sent it before Saturday, March 31st then send another one - we've updated the message.
Five-minute action
Call your MPP’s constituency office and to discuss your concerns about the budget. See the sample letter to the editor at the bottom of this email for some ways to phrase your concerns. Also visit cupe.on.ca/budget for information about how the budget affects you and the services you provide.
20-minute action
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. We need to shift the dialogue from austerity and cuts to growth and a better vision for Ontario. Letters are an important part of that shift. Write about what matters most to you, but feel free to use the information at cupe.on.ca/budget and the sample letter below to help guide you.

****In the first week of October, you should have received a newsletter from OCHU regarding the October Provincial Elections. In that newsletter, there should have been a blue CUPE member registration card. Please fill out the card, sign the back and return it - IT IS MANDATORY! You can return the card to your steward or slide it under the CUPE office door located by Tim Horton's on the 3rd floor. If you didn't receive one, or need a new one, please see your steward. Please note: 1943-01 members did not receive this newsletter and will need to get a registration from their steward when they become available.
